Doing the best we all can

You might be wondering, what in the world is in this photo?

In addition to our lovely rocking chair set-up looking onto our St. Francis courtyard, the left-hand corner of this photo features our “Quaran-tree.”

In order to keep our spirits up, my housemates and I have leaned into a dose of the absurd. One person named that it feels like Christmas, with so many of us gone and so many stores closed. Another remarked, “Why can’t it be Christmas? It can be anything we want!”

Then, we fortuitously found a tree on the curb. It’s now decorated with a paper chain at its base, a model head and a wig on top. A box of bleach disinfectant lives under the tree like a present.

It’s the little things that are getting us through this time. And we’re doing the best we all can.

SONG: The 14 days of Quarantine

Here are the lyrics:

On the first day of Quarantine, my housies advised me, keep six feet of social distancing.
On the second day of Quarantine, my housies advised me, to use latex gloves and keep six feet of social distancing.
On the third day of Quarantine, my housies advised me, wash your hands, use latex gloves, and keep six feet of social distancing …

fourth day … walk outdoors
fifth day … clean all the things
sixth day … don’t panic shop
seventh day … fold paper cranes
eighth day … don’t all cook at once
ninth day … count all Jeff’s plants
tenth day … call your family
eleventh day … learn to talk on Zoom
twelfth day … tip your dasher
thirteenth day … love one another
fourteenth day … celebrate being symptom free

What would you add?

In Light and community,
Jen
