Gaining Silence?

April 26, 2021 | by Jen Higgins-Newman, BHFH Program Manager

Friends gather on April 2, 2021, for the Good Friday Witness for Peace, led by the Peace and Social Justice Committee, Friends Meeting at Cambridge, supported by Beacon Hill Friends House. This event has been taking place since the 1960s.
Dear Friends,

I have had many ideas for what we might write, but nothing has felt “right.” I have named my frustration to my colleagues, my spouse, and a few of my housemates.

At dinner last night, our newest resident suggested to me: “It’s not that you have no words, but that you’re gaining silence.”

That reframing away from what I lack and toward what I might be gaining is helping me be ok with this message being short and ok with not having the words.

In what ways are you gaining silence? What reframing can you do to help you move through this season, or see things in a new light?

In Light and Community,
Jen
