Letting fresh air in
April 12, 2023 | Micah Rensunberg, BHFH Program Fellow
Recently at BHFH, housies and friends from the Beacon Hill Meeting teamed up for our spring workday. Our space had fresh life brought back into it as clutter was cleared out and common areas were tidied up.
It was especially meaningful to be sharing this time with outside volunteers as we built community with those beyond the house while sharing in the work of our space with them.
Everything practically feels new again and the warmer air allows for open windows, giving life here a renewed quality. We have been able to enjoy house dinners on the patio and craft time in the spaciousness of the library.
Getting ready for the changing seasons as a house prompted me to begin shifting my own closet around to hide away all my winter coats and make the t-shirts more accessible. It is exciting to have spaciousness for thinking about what I want or need to carry into the coming months before fully coming out of the hibernation that winter brought with it.
There’s something about house workdays that provides this invitation to think about our environment in new ways. It provides me with a reminder to stay curious about where I’m at in a given moment as I find the literal and metaphoric windows that are waiting to let a cool breeze in. As we look towards the warmer months, I wonder how each of us might be able to reimagine our surroundings in ways that feel life-giving, both in our own lives and alongside others.
