Bridging Gaps and Building Bonds

BHFH residents gathered in a storytelling circle with twine to bridge the gaps.

When BHFH residents gather for House Retreats, it’s all about building trust and finding joy in each other’s stories, laughter, and human connection. Our most recent retreat, with the theme “Bridging the Gaps,” had us leaning into the messy, beautiful work of truly seeing and hearing one another. And it was worth every second.

Storytelling took center stage, and wow, did it deliver! You think you know someone until you hear a different part of their story, and suddenly the person you pass in the kitchen every day contributes to a brand new shift in your perspective. But it wasn’t all deep talks and heavy feels — we also embraced the magic of a reflective harbor walk, some soul-soothing meditation by the water, and lots of downtime for those spontaneous, who-knew-I-needed-this kind of moments. Playful conversations? Quiet companionship? We had it all, and we soaked it up.

These retreats are where the magic really happens, where our community gets a serious shot of life and energy. It doesn’t matter if someone has lived here for two weeks or several years; there’s just something about intentional time together that leaves us with a deeper bond and a renewed sense of belonging. Those memories are the glue that keeps BHFH a vibrant and loving home with our chosen family.
