There are many ways to get involved and support the work of Beacon Hill Friends House!

If you are 70 1/2 years of age or older, you can make a tax-free charitable gift from your IRA to support Beacon Hill Friends House.

You can direct your required minimum distributions (up to $100,000) to BHFH, avoid income tax on the distribution and enjoy the satisfaction of your gift going to work immediately to support our Quaker mission.

Ways to Direct Your Giving to BHFH in FY24

Provide financial assistance for residency at BHFH

Making our residency program more financially accessible for people earning a lower income is part of how we fulfill our vision of “maintaining a diverse, intentional, residential community guided by Friends principles.”

In 2019, BHFH began a financial assistance program with a budget of just $2,400. We have grown the program each year, and in FY23 we were able to support 9 residents throughout the year with financial assistance (now 15% off room and board) totaling more than $15,000 of aid.

Ways to support our FY24 financial assistance program:

– $19,000 supports the entire budgeted amount for the financial assistance program in FY24.

– $5,376 supports financial aid for two residents for the year.

– $2,688 supports financial aid for one resident for the year.

Invest in our beloved building

The BHFH building was built in the early 1800s, and combined around 1920. As a historic yet dynamic building, we have a lot of maintenance and capital improvement needs to keep our space flourishing for years to come.

Ways to support our building:

– 36,000 will allow us to renovate our 2nd floor side 6 bathroom.

– $32,500 covers our budgeted maintenance needs for the fiscal year.

– $4,000 covers the cost of furniture for the Parlor to better serve the grounds who use it and our programming.

Help keep our residency program thriving

The longest-running program of BHFH, the Residency Program, is still going strong! In addition to supporting residents through our financial assistance program, there are more ways to support our vibrant community.

Ways to support our residency program:

– $4,000 covers the cost of a DTEN D7, to use to hold house meetings and committee meetings as hybrid meetings.

– $1,500 sponsors a week of house dinners.

– $1,000 sponsors a House Retreat.

Support our growing public events, and community partnerships

Since 201, BHFH has been following a leading described in our strategic plan to become a vibrant hub of Quaker learning and action. We have now run hundreds of events for thousands of participants from all over the world, and have hosted more than 15 different community groups in our space. We also launched a Program Fellowship initiative, in which fellows support these events and all of our work.

Ways to support public programming and community partnerships this year:

– $28,000 covers the true cost of our anticipated facility rentals for the year, allowing us to offer a sliding scale to groups renting our space.

– $16,228 sponsors a Program Fellow

– $3,600 sponsors our MIDWEEK: Experiments in Faithfulness program

We can also accept gifts of stock and distributions from Individual Retirement Accounts.

Bequests and Planned Giving

If you have fond memories of the Friends House and want to help ensure its financial health long into the future, we invite you to remember Beacon Hill Friends House in your will, trust, or estate plan.

One of the simplest planned gifts is a bequest through your will in which you designate either a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate after other disbursements. In addition to supporting the Friends House, it serves as an example to your heirs of the values and ideals you hold dear. To make a bequest, simply add the following language to your will – picking the appropriate version whether you choose to designate a dollar amount or a percentage of the remainder after other amounts are subtracted:

“I hereby give, devise and bequeath _____ dollars ($ _____) [or ____ percent (___%) of my residuary estate] to the Beacon Hill Friends House, Inc., a non-profit organization located at 6 Chestnut Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02108, Federal Tax ID #04-2240610, for Beacon Hill Friends House’s general use and purpose.”

Employer Matching

Did you know that many employers match employees’ donations to charitable organizations like the Beacon Hill Friends House? Taking advantage of an employer match to your gift is an easy way to contribute even more to our work.

To start, ask your human resources department whether your employer has a matching gift program, and find out what information you’ll need to request a match – your employer may ask you to complete a form or ask for the Beacon Hill Friends House’s employer identification number (EIN), which is 04-2240610. Donor Advised Funds

One increasingly common vehicle for philanthropic giving is the donor advised fund (DAF).
