Transfigurations: the Movie

Sunday, October 28th, 2018
12:30pm – 2:00pm

Join the Beacon Hill Friends House for a screening of the film version of Peterson Toscano’s play “Transfigurations”.
Peterson Toscano has shaken up Bible academics and received high praise for his ground-breaking, genre-bending, gender blending Bible scholarship. By unearthing the stories of gender-variant people in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, “Transfigurations” deepens well-known (and lesser-known) Bible stories and presents an array of Bible characters with an array of genders.
While today he is known for comic storytelling that addresses climate change, Peterson is a recognized scholar who has highlighted gender variance in the Bible. His performance lectures have garnered much attention and praise from Bible scholars. He has presented “Transfigurations–Transgressing Gender in the Bible” at academic conferences, seminaries, universities, places of worship, and drag bars.
Peterson Toscano, a Quaker and obsessive gardener, lives in Sunbury, PA with his husband, the writer, Glen Retief. Through his one-person comedies and lively lectures, Peterson has delighted audiences throughout North America, Europe, and Africa as he takes on social justice concerns. His plays and talks humorously explore the serious topics of LGBTQ issues, sexism, racism, privilege, gender, and climate change.
