Behold, the refinished dining room
[slideshow_deploy id=’1470′]
This fall we undertook to refinish the dining room floor and table. The floor was pretty simple, but the dining room table was a job and a half– at least for amateurs like us. The finish was bare in places, and sticky almost everywhere. The assembly of a table as long as ours has some complicated mechanics beneath it. This provided us with many puzzles to solve throughout the process. Our table leaves are made of mahogany (or possibly walnut), pine and plywood. We replaced some of the plywood with new oak boards. Remarkably, once stained, the pieces match quite well. We’re very pleased with our work! Many thanks to Sumner Caughey, alum, and clerk of Building Oversight Committee for working on the project with us, and to local Friends Jonathan Stutts and Bruce Neumann
for consulting on the project.
